Gorgeous music for a Michigan fall, including the big and bold opener, SHAKE THE RAFTERS by Los Angeles-based composer Jon Bailey; a rhythmic new setting of SIMPLE GIFTS; the hilarious CARMINA RICOTTA by Seattle theatrical composer Eric Lane Barnes; FOUR FOLK HYMNS FOR HARP AND CHOIR (John Rutter); a selection to rock the house, the Zambian folk song BONSE ABA; John Bucchino’s lovely ballad GRATEFUL; and the big finale GO LIGHT YOUR WORLD.

The chorale brings a fresh approach to this regional treat in the acoustically perfect Dimnent Chapel! We open with the organ, piano, orchestra and choral acrobatics in a stunning new version of HARK! THE HERALD ANGELS SING; thrill to the tight, a cappella harmonies of our new setting of IN DULCI JUBILO and the haunting string orchestra of CAROL FROM AN IRISH CABIN; and the one that will raise you out of your seat, NOT IN OUR TOWN (NO HATE, NO VIOLENCE).

In its first collaboration with Grand Valley State University, the Holland Chorale joins the University Arts Chorale, the GVSU Symphony Orchestra, and the Chancel Choir of Park Church, Grand Rapids for a concert of kingly proportions!  Start with Haydn’s LORD NELSON MASS, and end with Borodin’s magnificent PRINCE IGOR OVERTURE and POLOVETSIAN DANCES.  You’ll feel like royalty!

Inspired by the line from the popular folk hymn LORD OF THE DANCE, celebrate everyone’s favorite time to be in West Michigan: spring!  For the first time ever, the Holland Chorale is joined by the Performance Ensemble from Turning Pointe School of Dance.    You’ll reminisce with us for DANCE WITH MY FATHER, chuckle at selections from A CHORUS LINE, and thrill to THE AWAKENING and a scene from APPALACHIAN SPRING.  Get on your feet!

Nicholas Loren Competition and Showcase

The winners and finalists of this 8th and final annual competition perform in the intimate setting of the Padnos Gallery. The scope of talent in this competition has risen steadily since its inception and the singers come from many different states, education institutions and points in their careers. A panel of distinguished judges for the competition ensures that the performances you will hear are top-notch and will captivate and enthrall. Truly an exciting and enjoyable way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Adventures in Harmony – Young Women’s Edition

As a follow-up to the largely successful event for young men last season, adult women from the Holland Chorale, Grand Rapids Womens’ Chorus and Luminescence, a womens’ octet from Hope College will mentor young high school women from Black River, Calvary, Grand Haven, Holland Christian, Holland High, West Ottawa, and Zeeland. They will spend the day learning with Dr. Sandra Snow of MSU and will perform that evening as individual groups and en masse. What an opportunity for young and “older” alike!
